New Probability Lesson!

Halloween is a scary time - monsters, ghouls, goblins, and, the scariest of all, the probability unit of AP Stats.

Thankfully, we've got you covered. Our probability lessons bring in relevant contexts, intuitive explanations, and basic rules and methods for solving probability problems (rather than confusing formulas).

We've also made some important updates, including revamping a lesson to explore the fun context of the "curse" of the home run derby. The lesson is available in both standard and activity-based formats. Check it out below!

Home Run Derby "Curse"

Lesson 5.1

Introduce students to probability by exploring the "curse" of the home run derby. Lesson comes in standard and activity-based formats.

Update to our Intuitive Probability Rules Lesson 5.3

We've updated our intuitive probability rules (mentioned in Lesson 5.3) to include "Draw first" (to get students drawing a Venn diagram, tree diagram, or two-way table when one isn't provided). Rather than a confusing mess of formulas, these rules provide a simple set of guidelines for students, as they dive deeper into AP-level probability questions:

  1. Draw first (Venn, Table, Tree)

  2. Complement rule: P(A') = 1 – P(A)

  3. “Or” means add, beware of double-counts

  4. “Given” means divide by the given

  5. “And” means multiply, adjust for dependence

Let's skew it!
