Guest Appearance: Dr. Saver

By Dashiell Young-Saver

As we make our way through the thicket of inference units (and all the state-plan-do-concludes), it's always nice to have a change of pace. For my students, that comes in the form of a guest appearance in our AP Stats video series: Dr. Jeffrey Saver. Check out the video in the Skew The Script lesson below, where he walks through analyzing the data from a medical study he co-authored:

Lesson 8.4: Test for 2 Means

Dr. Jeffrey Saver walks through the statistical analysis for his co-authored study on a new device to treat strokes: the stent retriever.

Of course, the video reveals how we were able to book time amidst Dr. Saver's busy schedule: he's my Dad! As you can imagine, my students are quite enthused by all this, especially given the resemblance. Based on emails I've gotten from fellow teachers over the years, it sounds like other teachers' students have been pretty enthused too.

I think it's a nice demonstration that statistics isn't just for statisticians. Data is everywhere and is important to many fields. No matter what career path students choose, there's a good chance they're going to use the skills from our course to analyze data that matters to them.

Thank you so much, Dad, for helping spread this message to students. Love you so much!

Let’s skew it!
