Skew The Script is an AP Stats Textbook
Five years ago, Skew The Script started as a teacher’s website for sharing free AP® Statistics lessons. This summer, it joined the College Board’s AP® Course Audit list of textbooks for AP® Statistics.
This is a milestone that follows from years of building out free resources on the site, including:
Downloadable student-facing lesson materials (handouts, slide decks)
Downloadable teacher-facing lesson materials (keys) that provide model responses, teaching tips, and explanations of the “math behind the math.”
Instructional videos and Desmos activities that accompany each lesson
Full sets of practice problems in lesson handouts, for student fluency (and, optionally, homework)
Links to unit quizzes, semester exams, and mock exams, shared through AP® Classroom
Data projects and challenges for after the AP® Exam
Teaching guides for flipped, traditional, and online classrooms
Pedagogical resources, such as model discussion norms
Internal quality control processes, such as our Teacher Nonpartisan Review Committee
This milestone marks the fact that Skew The Script has grown to become a comprehensive resource for teaching AP® Statistics. It’s also the first instructional resource for AP® Statistics with external research showing evidence of causal improvements in AP® Exam pass rates. Best of all: teachers and schools don’t pay a cent to use all the resources named above.
Of course, teachers can still utilize a multitude of great resources to teach AP® Statistics, including resources from other online providers, physical textbooks, and self-created materials. After all, Skew The Script started as a teacher’s own set of self-created materials. So, we deeply trust teachers to make the call on what resources are best for their classrooms and for their students - whether that’s just Skew The Script, just other resources, or a mix of “greatest hits” from all of the above.
