What is the SkewU PLC?
Many high schools only have one or two AP Statistics or High School Statistics teachers. The result: these teachers are left to prepare, teach, adjust, and improve their courses on an island, without substantive collaboration with colleagues. SkewU Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) change that. The PLCs bring together statistics teachers for a year-long professional learning experience, involving peer collaboration during in-person and virtual workshops. Through this experience, teachers become a part of a local and sustaining community of educators working to bring relevant and compelling topics into their statistics classrooms.
The PLC sessions and coaching focus on three areas:
1) Internalize STS Lessons
Deeply understand Skew The Script lessons and practice facilitating relevant, rigorous, and nonpartisan classroom discussions.
2) Adapt & Adopt the Curriculum
Integrate Skew The Script lessons into your own curriculum so you know exactly when, where, and how to teach the lessons.
3) Implement Strong Teacher Moves
Practice using effective teacher moves to center relevance and spark high engagement in class.
