Letter to Parents

By modeling fair, balanced, and data-informed discussions in class, we can help students think critically and empathetically about the world around them. Consistent with these goals, Skew The Script lessons are purposefully nonpartisan. Our only political "agenda" is to heighten discourse through rigorous data analysis.

Of course, discussion of relevant topics can raise concerns of bias, especially among parents. Answering these questions quickly and transparently is incredibly important. So, we've created a letter that teachers can share with parents:

Letter to Parents

The letter directly informs parents that some class lessons will discuss civic issues; then, it takes them through our site's use of data from sources across the political spectrum, our annual committee review for fairness and balance, and examples of how multiple perspectives are represented in our lessons.

Please feel free to download the letter, edit it to make it your own, and then share with parents. Trust and transparency are key, and we hope this letter provides another helpful tool for fostering great partnerships with parents.

Note: This letter is part of our broader tips for teaching math on civic topics. Make sure to check those out if you haven't already.

Let’s skew it!
